LE MARS, Iowa -- Mary Ellen Boden, 79, of Le Mars died unexpectedly Sunday, July 21, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Andrew Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m Tuesday, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4 p.m., and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., all at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mrs. Boden was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Christine (Rolfes) Langel. She was a lifelong resident of Plymouth County. At the age of 7, she moved with her family to a farm east of Le Mars. She received her education at St. Joseph's Parochial School in Le Mars. After her mother's death, she kept house for her dad and brothers.

She married Ermin Wiederholt on Feb. 4, 1941. He died June 17, 1941. She married Henry R. Boden on Jan. 15, 1955. They farmed for 31 years in Plymouth County, retiring to Le Mars in 1989.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the church guild, and the Christian Mothers Society. She was very well-known by her family and friends as the person to keep them informed of any news by the many letters she wrote. She also loved to play cards and visit with friends.

Survivors include her husband; two brothers and their wives, Vic and Eileen Langel and Ray and Dorothy Langel, all of Le Mars; a sister, Mildred Junkers of Minneapolis, Minn.; four brothers-in-law, Lawrence Ney of Granville, Iowa, Mark Bivins of Kansas City, Mo., Le Roy Boden of Clinton, Mo., and Harold and his wife, Elaine Boden of Montrose, Miss.; 12 sisters-in-law, Charlotte Allen of Storm Lake, Helen Langel of Norfolk, Neb., Isabelle and her husband, Dick Laddusaw of Remsen, Iowa, Helen Wiederholt of Sioux City, Verina and her husband, Frank Beckmann of Remsen, Katherine and her husband, Bernard Wagner of Kansas, Mary Puthoff, Clara Mae and her husband, George Griff, Florence Tulley and Eleanor Seaton, all of Clinton, Mo., Rose and her husband, Vernell Storey, and Esther and her husband, Dean Douglas, all of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ed, Lawrence, Cliff and William Langel; two sisters, Helen Ney and Adella Bivins; and three brothers-in-law, Vitus Wiederholt, Joseph Junkers and John Boden.
