Clyde O. Bogenreif, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Embassy Nursing and Rehab Center in Sergeant Bluff from complications of diabetes.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserve. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Clyde O. Bogenreif was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Sioux City, the son of William and Ethel (Bean) Bogenreif. He graduated from Central High School in 1939. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and proudly served his country with Company B, 5th Battalion, during World War II. After the war, he returned to Sioux City and lived in Leeds where his father ran a Phillips 66 gas station.
He married Vera O'Millinuk in Hinton, Iowa, in 1955. They moved to the Morningside area of Sioux City in 1956 and lived in the same house for 45 years. Mrs. Bogenreif died Oct. 27, 2001. He had been a resident of the Embassy Nursing and Rehab Center since 2002.
He loved working for 33 years as a water meter repairman for the city of Sioux City, where everyone knew him as "Bogie." He retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Federation of Federal State County and Municipal Employees.
As a young man, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing, earning a certificate of merit from the Arthur Miller International School of Ballroom Dancing. Later in life, he enjoyed time with his family, listening to his country music and polka records, working on projects in the garage that he built and taking care of his Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe automobile that he purchased new in 1953. During his retirement, he frequently enjoyed coffee and conversation with buddies at the Sunshine Grocery Store cafe in Morningside.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Dennis and Diane Bogenreif of Sioux City; a niece, Arlyne Tomkins and her special friend, Hobo of Sioux City; and a nephew and his wife, William and Barb Maxon of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; and a sister, Audria Maxon.
