Ruby Lorene Tucker Brown was born Aug. 6, 1915, on the family farm near Akron, the daughter of Walt and Cora (Frager) Tucker. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1931 at the age of 15. She attended college at Westmar College in LeMars and later took classes at the University of South Dakota. She taught school in rural Plymouth and Union (S. D.) Counties and at Westfield Public School. She married Armand Brown in 1937. They operated the Adaville store for eight years, from 1945 to 1954, until she returned to teaching. She went to work at the Akron Savings Bank in 1966, and remained there until she retired in 1980.

She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Akron where she served as Sunday school treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and deaconess. She was the current president of the American Baptist Women. She was a member of the Vesper Chapter #90 Order of the Eastern Star of LeMars and a former Worthy Matron. She was a former member of the Older Iowan Legislature, the Book and Thimble Club and the Akron Senior Citizen Center governing board.

She enjoyed playing in the Akron Care Center Bell Choir. She was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music. She liked to sew and bake, especially pie. She also enjoyed yard work and tending to her flowers while she was able to do it. But most of all she enjoyed her family and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Grace Blankenburg and Dorothy Brown; three brothers, Emery Tucker, Robert Tucker and Everett Tucker in childhood; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Grant and Viola Brown.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Akron with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday with the family present after 6 p.m., a Vesper Chapter #90 Order of Eastern Star of LeMars service at 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
