Dorothy Eyres Young, 85, San Jose, Calif., a Plymouth county native, died Wednesday (Aug. 19, 1981) at a nursing home in San Jose.
The body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, at Morningside Presbyterian church, Sioux City. Ashes will be buried at LeMars Memorial cemetery.
Dorothy Eyres was born March 30, 1896, in Plymouth county to Richard and Kathryn (sic--Katherine, according to her marriage record) Kohl Eyres. She attended school here and Western Union college, now Westmar.
She graduated from Morningside college and was an art teacher for 30 years at various schools and colleges in this area. She taught at Moville, Bronson, Union Consolidated school in Plymouth county and at Westmar and Northwestern in Orange City.
She also attended art school at Chauinard in Los Angeles and taught at Buena Vista college, Storm Lake.
Her marriage to Robert A. Young took place April 4, 1931 in California. He died in 1950.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Eyres and Donald Eyres.
Survivors are three daughters, Kathryn Young, San Jose; Margaret Young Clark, Denver, and Jeanne Young, Dallas, Tex. There are three grandchildren and a brother, Richard (Dick) Eyres, Billings, Mont.
