Mildred Eyres, Former Teacher, Dead at 77

Mildred Eyres, 77, Plymouth County native and former longtime resident, died of heart disease Tuesday (Oct. 23, 1984) in Great Bend, Kan.

Internment (sic--interment) will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery after cremation. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Edward Phillips at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Calvary United Methodist Church in LeMars.

The former Mildred Hahn, she was born Jan. 21, 1907, in Liberty Township, the daughter of Charles and Ella Hahn. She married Donald Eyres who preceded her in death in 1942.

She is survived by her children, Mrs. Gerald (Carolyn) Adcock, Omaha; Leland Eyres of Muscatine and Mrs. Keith (Sharon) Trost, Great Bend, and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Eyres taught senior high science courses during the 1940s at LeMars High School and followed with pride the careers of her students.

In her 50s, Mrs. Eyres earned a master's degree in library science from the University of Denver and worked at the Westmar Library before becoming head librarian at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S. D. She had resided since retirement in Great Bend with her daughter, Sharon.

She was a lifelong subscriber to the LeMars newspapers and maintained her connection with the community through the newspaper pages.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lowell and Bennie Hahn.
