Henry Borchers Taken By Death

Well Known Farmer Of Johnson Township

Henry Borchers, a long time resident of Plymouth county, died Tuesday night at his home in Johnson township, at the age of 79 years. He had been suffering from heart trouble for a number of years, and his condition became critical two weeks ago.

Henry Borchers was born in Oldenburg, Germany, February 18, 1864, and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Borchers, to America when three years old. They settles in Will county, Ill., where Mr. Borchers spent his boyhood. He came to LeMars in 1881 and farmed in Preston township, and later bought land in Johnson township, where he spent the rest of his life.

Mr. Borchers married Kate Rickles in 1891, who died leaving one child, a daughter. In 1894 he married Helen Toel, and three children were born to them.

Besides his wife, Helen, he leaves one son, Ben Borchers, of Johnson township, three daughters, Mrs. Anna Toel of Brunsville, Mrs. Alma Plueger, of Preston township, Mrs. Frieda Eilers of Ireton, twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, four brothers, Ben, August, Will and John all living in this community, and a sister, Mrs. Chas. Mammen, of LeMars.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Eilers, and three brothers, Louis Borchers and two who died in infancy.

Mr. Borchers was a good citizen and neighbor, and a successful farmer. He was a devout member of the Lutheran church.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in St. John’s Lutheran church, in Preston township, Rev. C. Fenske officiating. Six grandsons will be pallbearers. Interment will be made in Preston township cemetery, with the Mauer funeral home of LeMars in charge.
