Lucille May Lancaster
Lucille May Lancaster, age 82, died at Galway Homes in Leawood, Kansas on April 7, 2012.
Lucille May Pageler was born on July 26, 1929, in Plymouth County, Iowa at her Grandmother Pageler’s farm to the late Herman Dietrich and Mathilda Elizabeth (Baack) Pageler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1947, taught in a rural school in the fall of 1948 which had 18 students in seven grades. On April 9, 1950, she was married to George Wesley Lancaster near Merrill, Iowa. The first ten years of marriage started at a ranch near Petosi, Missouri with successive moves to a farm near Blockton, Iowa, at the family farm near Seney, Iowa, and at Holstein, Iowa. These years saw the addition of five children to the family. During the 1960’s the family moved four more times with the final move to Kansas City, Missouri in 1970. Although Mrs. Lancaster never achieved the dream of a college education, she witnessed all of her children graduate from college. She once said that she dreamed of being a mother and raising a family and that is what she did.
Mrs. Lancaster was a long time member of Gashland Presbyterian Church. She served the church in many areas through her life and she led home Bible studies. She attended 20 Elderhostel programs with “Wes” throughout the United States and liked to visit state capitals. Her interest included watching college and professional football and Royals baseball on TV and looked forward to watching the University of Kansas play basketball. Mrs. Lancaster enjoyed cooking (chocolate chip cookies and ice cream cakes were favorites), hosting many family events and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Betsy Reese of Independence, Missouri; sons David and wife Mary Lou of Hillsboro, Kansas; Mark and wife Mary; Tom; and Chris and wife Lori, all of Kansas City; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and brother Wayne Pageler and wife Ester of New Port Ritchey, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George and son-in-law Michael Reese.
Funeral services will be held at Gashland Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, April 11th with burial at Mount Moriah Terrace Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at the visitation at the church at 10am. Please direct memorial gifts to Gashland Presbyterian Church.
