LE MARS, Iowa – Louis Anthon Toel, 82, of Le Mars died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Toel was born July 9, 1915, in Brunsville, Iowa, the son of Fred and Margaretha (Scheff) Toel. He moved with his family to Hinton, Iowa, as a child. He attended school at Hinton. He began farming at the Martin Muecke farm near Hinton.

He married Louise Beitelspacher on Nov. 9, 1941, in Grant Township. The couple continued to farm near Hinton until 1948, when they moved to a farm near Struble, Iowa. They retired in 1989 and moved to Le Mars. She died Aug. 9, 1993.

He was member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as a trustee for the Elgin 2 School District. He was active with the Floyd Valley Watershed Association and had been a seed corn salesman for many years. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Randall and LaRae, Dennis and Desiree and Wayne and Karen, all of Le Mars; a brother and his wife, Wilbur and Olga of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Carmen McNaughton and Kimberly, Michael, Darrick, Ryan and Dawn Toel; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roger, and a daughter-in-law, Jean Toel.

Pallbearers will be Darrick, Mike, Ryan and David Toel and Leonard and Dean Beitelspacher.
