Jon Trowbridge, 77, of Akron, Iowa passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. A visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday morning. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
Jon Ross Trowbridge was born on September 18, 1937 to Mitchel and Lilah (Mathews) Trowbridge in Dows, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm and graduated high school from Latimer-Coulter High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After his military service, he was united in marriage to Maryln Mugge on October 27, 1962 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. To this union they had seven children. Jon and Maryln began their life together in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and later moved to Illinois, Colorado, and Missouri before settling in Akron, Iowa in 1997. Family and a strong work ethic meant the world to Jon – he treasured the time spent with his family and loved being able to restore and update homes for and with them. He enjoyed all aspect of carpentry, building, and gardening. Jon was also an avid Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Jon is survived by his wife, Maryln; seven children: Shelly Trowbridge, Mark (Dawn) Trowbridge, Jon Trowbridge, Wendy (Bob) Shivley, Mathew (Maria) Trowbridge, Luke (Maria) Trowbridge, and Heather (Seth) Dixon; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Doris, Dorthea, Doreen, Leann, and Linda; one brother, George; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Jon is preceded in death by his parents.
