Chester Allen "Sonny" Trobaugh, 55, of Greeley, Colo., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time today, with the family present at 12:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Trobaugh was born Feb. 16, 1948, in Sioux City, the son of Chester and Opal I. (Allen) Trobaugh. He was raised in the Westfield, Iowa, area and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Bonnie Lynn Gruis on Aug. 16, 1968, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Sioux City in 1970. He was employed with IBP for 26 years, becoming the hide superintendent before leaving in November 1996. The couple then moved to Greeley, where he went to work for Con-Agra as a structural engineer.

His hobbies included golfing, softball, bowling, hunting and raising Koi fish. He adored his grandbabies.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Lynn Trobaugh of Greeley; his father and stepmother, Chester and Ellen Trobaugh of Sioux City; two sons, Todd Trobaugh and his wife, Kim of Sloan, Iowa, and Brent Trobaugh and his fiancee, Jacy of Sioux City; a daughter, Cindy Mathewson of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Harley and Marilyn Trobaugh of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Madonna and her husband, Dan Eacret of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kay Trobaugh of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Linda and her husband, Elmer Yates of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother-in-law, Norma Gruis of North Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Justin, Ashley, Cori, Bobbi Jo, Tanner and Corey; three great-stepgrandchildren, Braiden, Kayden and Kaylee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal I. Trobaugh.

Pallbearers will be Steve Caravan, Jim Carter, Wally Devos, Ken Dingus, Jerry Peterson and LeRoy Van Metre.
