HAWARDEN, Iowa - Thelma G. Sieglaff, 93, of Hawarden died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, S.D.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Associated Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Charlotte Fillingsness officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, with family present 7 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Sieglaff was born Aug. 17, 1907, in Story City, Iowa, the daughter of Lars and Pauline (Fossel) Savereide. She graduated from Estherville (Iowa) High School and attended nurses training in Waterloo, Iowa, and Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Chicago. She married Harold Sieglaff on Sept. 12, 1927, in Little Brown Church in the Vail in Nashua, Iowa. They attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, graduating in 1942 and becoming missionaries to Sudan and Ethiopia.

They returned in 1952 and went to Dallas, Texas. They lived in Holland, Mich., where she worked while her husband attended the seminary. They lived in Davis, S.D., Early, and Cleghorn, Iowa. Mr. Sieglaff died in January 1983. She moved to Hawarden and moved into Morningside Manor from Hillcrest Health Care Center in April 2001.

She was a member of Associated Church of Hawarden and assisted with Sunday schools in the churches they served.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Harold Paul and Diana Sieglaff of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters and their husbands, Genee and Gerald Van Wyk of Hawarden, and Pauline and Robert Sells of Perry, Iowa; two brothers, the Rev. Cyrus and his wife, Vera Savereide of Fargo, N.D., and Arnold Savereide of New Port Richey, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Bruce and Charles; three sisters, Louise Hoy, Emma Gene Beckman and Mabel Luce; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Savereide.
