Gene Stabe, 80, of Akron, Iowa passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015 with the family present after 5:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Gene Raymond Stabe was born on Apirl 22, 1935 to Raymond and Evelyn (Kounkel) Stabe. Gene was born and raised in Neptune, Iowa and attended country school there until the age of 9. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1953. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Reserves. He served four years in the Air Force. While stationed in England, he met and married Diane Eastick. Gene and Diane moved to Le Mars in 1960 where Gene was a truck driver. They moved to Akron in 1972 and Gene began working as a truck dispatcher for Heyl Truck Line. He retired in 1997. Gene was a Texan at heart; he loved to ride and break horses, visit Texas on trucking trips, and enjoyed listening to and singing along to country music. He also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles.

Gene is survived by his wife, Diane; three children: Eugene (Laurel) Stabe of Littleton, CO, Kathy Stabe of Omaha, NE, and Justin (Angie) Stabe of Akron, IA; four grandchildren: Zachary Stabe, Lucas (Marie) Stabe, Ashley (Amy) Stabe, and Lillian Stabe; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Janice Stabe; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Stabe.
