Larry Dobson, 72, of Le Mars passed away suddenly, Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars with Reverend John Battern officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241of Le Mars will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5:00 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Larry Lee Dobson was born July 27, 1939 in Denison, Iowa to Oliver L. and Inez (Galland) Dobson. As a young child the family moved to Beaver Creek, Minnesota and later to Luverne, Minnesota, Lester, Iowa and then to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1955, they moved to Le Mars were Larry graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1957. While in high school, Larry became interested in auto repair. Following high school he went to work for Stoos Brothers Body Shop learning the craft. He served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. Larry was united in marriage to Linda Petry on July 5, 1966 in Luverne, Minnesota. Larry was an instructor at NW Iowa Vocational School in Sheldon teaching auto body repair. In 1967, Larry and Linda returned to Le Mars and for the next several years, Larry worked for various companies in the automotive industry either selling or repairing cars. For the last years, Larry has been involved with selling antiques and other collectibles. He enjoyed working on cars with his friends, attending car shows and swap meets.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda Dobson of Le Mars; a daughter, Meredith Kurth and her husband Gary of Rock Rapids and their children, Jaxson and Tyler; 2 sisters, Vonice McDougall and her husband Doug of Le Mars and Wendy Borgstrand of O''Fallon, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Betty Dobson of Sioux Falls, SD; in-laws: David and Jan Petry of Waterloo, IA, JoAnn Petry of Le Mars, and Pam and Gene Reeves of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver L. and Inez (Galland) Dobson; 6 brothers: Lemuel, Georgie, Bernard, Frederick, Gaylord in infancy, and Phalyn.
