Life Story for Joanne Durig

Le Mars, Iowa-Joanne F. Durig, 77, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday , April 26, 2014 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars. . Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow of St. John’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Joanne Faye Durig was born on December 23, 1936 in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle and Marie (McHugh) Savery. She grew up on the Savery family farm in Moorhead.

Joanne worked many years as a nurse’s aide at the Onawa Nursing Home and Countryside Nursing Home until her retirement. She enjoyed dancing, planting flowers and gardening. Her greatest enjoyment in life was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joanne is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Tom) Woods of Moville, IA, Laura (Gary) Delashmutt of Le Mars, and Brenda Durig of Kiron, IA; sisters, Lorna Thogersen of Richmond, TX, Karen (Norm) Rutledge of Mountain Home, AR; brother, Gary (Terri) Savery of Moorhead, IA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Marie Savery and grandson, Joseph Delashmutt.
