Mrs. Milton (Marie A.) Nussbaum, 86, of Remsen, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Marie A. Nussbaum was born Feb. 20, 1917, at rural Remsen, the daughter of James and Marianna (Kirsch) Barthole. Marie was raised in the Remsen area and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. On July 7, 1952, she married Milton Nussbaum at Remsen. They made their home near Remsen where they were engaged in farming. Over the years, Marie was also employed at Kahout Cap Factory in Le Mars, Happy Siesta Health Care Center and Hatz frozen Food Center both in Remsen, The Abbey of Le Mars and Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Milton and Mrie retired and moved into Remsen in 2000.

She had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since November 2000. She enjoyed baking, crafts and people. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Church Guild in Remsen.

Survivors include her husband, Milton of Remsen; two daughters, Sally and her husband, John Reynolds, of Baxley, Ga., and Connie Widell of Moline, Ill.; one son, Milton Jr. and his wife Joan of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Michael Feller, Michelle Mortenson, Jonathan Feller, Stephannie Fiedler, Adam Nussbaum, Brandon Nussbaum; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one brother, Ray Barthole of Deer Park, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Edward in infancy, Charles, Nicholas and John (Jack) Barthole; two sisters, Elizabeth Frericks and Margaret Holton; a son-in-law, Eric (Ric) Widell.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen. Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. Thursday at the fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. mary's Guild and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Michael Feller, Ronald Barthole, Jerry Barthole, Paul Mai, Chad Fiedler, Daniel Ruhland.
