Goldie Friske, 88, of Akron, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Jim Berka and Reverend Carla Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Goldie Pearl Hoffman was born March 18, 1926 near Merrill, Iowa the daughter of Ray Sr. and Marie (Godfrey) Hoffman. She was raised near Westfield, Iowa, where she attended country school. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Friske on December 15, 1945 at the Church of All Nations in Sioux City. They farmed in the Akron area till his death on October 20, 1978. Goldie moved into Akron, where she worked at the Akron Care Center.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Through the years, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, cooking, and playing cards at the Akron Care Center. Goldie also was a volunteer for Hospice of Siouxland, and babysat the children of Akron for many years. She loved children and they all called her “Grandma Goldie”. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter: Beverly (Jim) Renken of Alcester, SD; 5 grandchildren: Tim (Kim) Renken of Alcester, SD, Matthew (Lindsey) Renken of Minneapolis, MN, Angela Bernard of Rumford Maine, Jacob Renken (special friend, Stepanie Teply) of Vermillion, SD, and Jerry Renken (special friend: Jaimee Derrick) of Wagner, SD; her great grandchildren: Hannah, Heidi, Harbor, and Hazel Renken, Mariah and Rachel Renken, and Charles “Charlie” Bernard III; 3 brothers: Ray (Betty) Hoffman of Westfield, IA, Ken (Katherine) Hoffman of Westfield, and Don Hoffman of Westfield; a sister: Betty Van Wyk of Hawarden, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; her daughter: Delores “Dee” Friske; a sister and her husband: Ida and Lloyd Searls; a brother: Gene Hoffman; a brother in law: John Van Wyk; and a grandson in law: Charles “Chuck” Bernard II.
