Stanton Pioneer Crosses Divide

John Dobbert Came Here In Seventies

John W. Dobbert, son of William and Sophie Dobbert, was born January 2, 1865, in Cooperstown, Manitowax County, Wis.. At the age of eight he accompanied his parents to Plymouth county, Iowa, where they established a home in Stanton township. In this community he grew to manhood.

At an early age he united with the Evangelical Church making professin of his Christian faith. He was active in the leadership of this church, serving for a number of years as Sunday school superintendent, and as trustee.

Active In Community

He was united in marriage to Misss Ella Uthe on March 12, 1891. A joyous family gatherin observed their 48th anniversary this past March.

Three children were born to them, all of whom survive their father. They are Oliver Dobbert of Le Mars, Mrs. T. A. Strid of Green Bay, Wis., and Mrs. Ed Peterson of Elk Point, S. D.

During the years when health permitted, Mr. Dobbert was engaged in farming in Stanton township. In 1921 they left their farm and located in Le Mars where they have continued to reside.

The struggle with poor health had continued through a large part of his life. In recent years his condition has made it necessary that he remain at home most of the time. His general condition had become greatly weakened by pernicious anemia and lst week he began showing signs of increased weakness. He passed away Friday, May 19, at the age of 74 years.

He was a staunch believer in the Christian faith and his closing days found him appreciative of the consolation of trusting in God. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth, yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow them."

Funeral Held Monday

Besides his wife, Mrs. Ella Dobbert, and the son and two daughters, he is survived by four grandchildren, Ronald and Dean Strid of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Marilyn and E. Walter Peterson of Elk Point, South Dakota. The following brothers and sisters are living: Mrs. Pauline Brandstetter, Mrs. Miles Reints, Mrs. Minnei Schneider and William Dobbert, all of Le Mars, and MRs. Tillie Berner, Mrs. Louise Schauer, August Dobbert and Henry Dobbert, all of California.

Funeral services were held in Hildreth Memorial Evangelical Church on Monday, May 22, Rev. G. O. Thompson officiating, assisted by Dr. B. F. Zuehl. Burial was in the Le Mars city cemetery.
