Mrs. Charles Carpenter
Mrs. Charles Carpenter, 81, of Elk Point died Sunday (April 2) in an Elk Point nursing home.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at the First Church of Christ in Akron, with Rev. Michael McHugh officiating. Burial was in the Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Elk Point.
Mrs. Carpenter, the former Bertha Beach, was born July 20, 1896, near Akron and was married to Mr. Carpenter on Feb. 24, 1921, in Elk Point. They lived on a farm northwest of Akron until 1943 when they moved to Hawarden. After his death in 1956 she moved to Elk Point. She was a member of the First Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Leo Hambright of Burr Oak, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Ada) Isbell of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Dunham and Mrs. Thomas (Evelyn) Hanson, both of Elk Point; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Beach of Sioux City, and two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Coleman of Sioux City and Mrs. Viva Jack of Akron.
