Reinhold "Reinie" Witt

Reinhold G. "Reinie" Witt, 99, of Sioux City, formerly of Akron, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Reinhold G. "Reinie" Witt was born July 23, 1906, on the family farm near Akron, the son of Albert and Mary (Stoehr" Witt. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He attended country school in Portland Township in Plymouth County. He was united in marriage to Leona H. Frerichs on June 14, 1944, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston Township in Plymouth County. Together they were the parents of three children, Sharon, Sandra and Allan. The couple farmed near Akron for many years, raising chickens and cows. They retired in 1972. In 1979 they moved to Akron. Leona died March 4, 1984. Two years later, he moved to Sioux City to live with his daughter, where he was currently residing.

Reinie was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron where he was a former church council president. He was also a former trustee for the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. He enjoyed fishing and doing "hand" work around the home. He also enjoyed his Fridays at the Legion, where they referred to him as "Friday." He loved visiting with friends and family and having a good time. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, particularly about the Chicago Cubs. But most of all, he loved the times with his grandchildren, where some referred to him as "Pop." He was always there for his family, whether it was offering advice or a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchidren.

Survivors include his three children: Sharon Monckton of Sioux City, Sandra Pearson and her husband Harold "Shorty" of Hawarden, and Allan Witt of Akron; eight grandchildren: Brent Monckton and his wife Robin, Keith onckton, Janel Pearson, Jason Pearson and his wife, SAra, Jamie Pearson, Jenna Pearson, Allan Witt, Jr. and his wife, Anna, and Colt Witt; eight great-children: Caleb, Ella, Sumer, Paige, Grace, Haylee, Brody, and Rose: and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona; three brothers, Henry, Albert, and Alfred; three sisters, Minnie Reemts, Lorena Kallsen, And Alma Harms; a son'in=law Darrel Monckton; and two great-grandchildren in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, E. L. C. A. in Akron with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday) with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Casket bearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers will be his great-grandchildren.
