Ida Searls, 89, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of Westfield, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Hawarden, Iowa. Reverend Stuart Schreur will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Ida Dorothy Hoffman was born October 4, 1924 on the family farm near Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Ray, Sr. and Nellie (Godfrey) Hoffman. She attended country school near Westfield.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd Searls on March 8, 1944 in Elk Point, South Dakota. She and Lloyd farmed near Akron for over 37 years until retiring in 1981. After retiring, they made their home in Westfield. Lloyd passed away June 15, 1984. Ida continued to live in Westfield until moving to Hawarden in 2005. In September of 2011, she became a resident of Hillcrest in Hawarden.

Through the years, Ida enjoyed playing cards and listening to country music. She will be remembered for her baking, especially for her homemade bread and rolls. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her two daughters: Marlene (Robert) Schiefen of Hawarden, and Marie (James) Scott of Le Mars; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her brothers: Ray, Jr. (Betty) Hoffman of Westfield, Ken (Katherine) Hoffman of Westfield, and Donald Hoffman of Akron; two sisters: Goldie Friske of Akron and Betty Van Wyk of Ireton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; two sons: Ronald in infancy and Larry; her brother: Gene Hoffman; two brothers in law: Arthur Friske and John Van Wyk; a nephew: Kenny Van Wyk; and a niece: Delores Friske.
