William Porter Sr.
William Arthur Porter Sr., 68, a resident of South Sioux City for the past 15 years, died Friday (May 19, 1989) at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday at the Riverside Methodist church, Rev. Roberft Lemmerman officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery, under direction of Becker-Hunt funeral home.Mr. Porter was born Dec. 23, 1920, at Springfield, S.D. He was employed by Western Union in Sioux City. He married Leona M. Roost Aug. 15, 1953, at Ponca Neb. He was employed many years at Cudahy's Packing Co. and Dressed Beef. He farmed around the Onawa and Westfield areas for many years, before starting his own business with Skelly Oil at Sioux City.
After semi-retirement he was active with the Siouxland Federation of Square and Round Dance Association, serving as president for four years. He was chairman of the state Square and Round Dance Convention which will be held in march of 1990. He was president of the Senior Citizen's Bowling League at BowlMor Lanes for the past six years. At the time of his death he was employed by Johnson Hardware.
He was a member of the Riverside Methodist church, and was on the trustee board.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, William Arthur Jr., of Maxwell, Neb., Noah of Thurston, Neb., and Merle of Omaha; six daughters, Karen Crum and Bernice Damrau of sioux City, Tiffery Bonifas of St. Charles, Ill., Jennifer Winnekamp of Pender, Neb., Marcia Brandt of Westfield and Shirley Boghenlick of South Sioux City; 24 grnadchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
