AGED PIONEER OF COUNTY DIES AT WESTFIELD JULY 9

H. B. Lilly Prominent In Civic Affairs There-Funeral Held Tuesday

H. B. Lilly, a well-known pioneer resident of Plymouth county, passed away at his home in Westfield, Iowa, Saturday morning, July 9, 1949, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Hardy Bardwell Lilly was born in Waterloo, Iowa, October 18, 1865. He came to Plymouth county at the age of five, and located in the Westfield community in 1884. On November 7, 1892, he was united in marriage with Carrie E. Marchant at Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home in the Westfield community, except for a brief time spent in Texas. To this union seven children were born.

Mr. Lilly leaves to mourn his departure the following children: Mrs. Jennie Tower, of Redwood City, Cal.; Mrs. Ferne Boyd,of Ronan, Mont.; David and Bardwell Lilly, of Westfield; Mrs. Carol Boyd, of Twodot, Mont., and Mrs. Doris Schulz, of Elk Point, S. D.; also a brother, O. B. Lilly, of Westfield; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends, who will greatly miss him.

His wife and one daughter preceded him in death.

In his early years Mr. Lilly taught school in Plymouth county, and later,after moving to Westfield, served as mayor for several terms. He was a loyal supporter of the Congregational church and interested in its welfare. He was a kind, loving father and an esteemed member of the community.

The funeral service was held at the Westfield Congregational church at 2:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Joseph Steele, of Sioux City. Mr. Dorcas Bull sang two numbers, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Keith Knapp.

The pallbearers were Christy Moffatt, Albert Harrington, Wallace Lilly, Clark Lilly, Wayne Lilly, and Frank Welch. Interment was in Riverside cemetery at Akron.
