H.B. "Bard" Lilly

H.B. "Bard" Lilly, 84, of Akron died Saturday, May 14. 1994, at the Akron Care Center after a one-year illness.

Services were held Wednesday, May 18, 1994, at the Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Marty Healy officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Casket bearers were Michael Ruhland, Arvin Finzen, Jim Buryanek, Jim Small, David Lilly and Earl Schultz.

Mr. Lilly was born March 26, 1910, in Westfield, the son of Hardy and Carrie (Marchant) Lilly. He graduated from Westfield High School and attended Iowa State University. On Jan. 4, 1930, he married Viola "Vi" McDougall in Sioux City. He farmed most of his life in the Westfield area. The couple retired in 1975 and moved to Akron. Mr. Lilly was a member of the Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Avonelle "Ava" Sargent of Sioux City; three granddaughters, Linda and her husband, Keith Murkins of Sioux City, Bobbi Dupree of Houston, Texas, and Danna and her husband, David Barnes of St. Paul, Minn.; six great-grandchildren Brad and Kristi Murkins, Matt Sargent, Karli Dupree, and Lucas and Peter Barnes; one great-great-granddaughter, Ala. Jai Humbert; two sisters, Carol Boyd of Mesa, Ariz., and Doris Schultz of Elk Point, S.D.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David; three sisters, Jenny, June and Feme, and a son-in-law, Robert Sargent.
