Gertrude E. McCarthy
Gertrude E. McCarthy, 77, of Akron, died Friday (Nov. 7, 1986) at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center, following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. The Rev. Dr. Benard Nelson will officiate. There will be a burial service at 10 a.m. preceding the memorial service, at the Riverside Cemetery, Akron, for Mrs. McCarthy and her late husband, Milton J. McCarthy, who passed away Aug. 31, 1986. Family and friends are invited to participate in both services.
Mrs. McCarthy was born Dec. 14, 1909 at Alton, Iowa, to Edward and Arta (Tatt) Talsma. She was reared in Alton and graduated from Alton high school in 1927. She married Milton McCarthy Feb. 2, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in Alton; Hawarden, Akron, Sioux City and Clear Lake, Iowa, and more recently spent the winters in Florida, Texas and-Arizona.
Survivors include four sons, Don of Burlington, Iowa, John of Sacramento, Calif., Thomas of Orlando, Fla., and Mark of Clear Lake, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Janet) Anderson of Akron and Mrs. Russell (Mary) Pals of Clear Lake; one sister, Jeanette Nootnagle, Charles City, la.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Julius.
