Bernhard "Ben" Rieken
Bernhard "Ben" Rieken, 91, Akron, died Thursday (July 24, 1986) in the Akron City Convalescent Care Center.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. The Rev. Robert H. Kruempel, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, rural Akron, officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron. Beverly Van Buskirk, soloist, sang "What A Friend" and "My Faith Looks Up To Thee", accompanied by Loretta Van Buskirk, organist.
Pallbearers were Harvey Haage, William Haage, Glenn Haage, Elmer Borchers, Arthur Friedrich, and Donald Lucken.
Mr. Rieken was born June 30, 1895, to Berd R. and Lena Miniets Rieken in Leerhafe, Freisland, Germany. He came to the United States and the Akron area as a young man. He worked as a hired farmhand and later for the REA. He also worked for the railroad until his retirement.
Survivors include a nephew, Behrend Rieken in Leerhafe, West Germany.
