Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Blake
Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Blake, 63, of Akron, died Wednesday (July 2, 1986) at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center after a brief illness.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Church of Christ in Akron. The Rev. Elmer Hodge officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under the direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Visitation was held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Orin Blake, Dan Sanders, Kevin Lewison, Larry Knecht, Clayton Jacobson and Ed Searls. Soloist Tim Kelley sang "Whispering Hope", accompanied by organist Carol Harris.
Mrs. Blake, the former Helen Frances Determann, was born Feb. 15,1923, in Struble, Iowa, to Frank and Kathryn Determann. She attended Le Mars Central high school. She taught country school in the Merrill area for a few years.
She married Kenneth Blake July 16, 1942, in South Sioux City, Nebr. The couple lived in the Akron area most of their lives, except for three years when they lived in Wayne, Nebr.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Akron; two daughters, Carol Pies of Akron and Lisbeth Terpstra of Westfield; three sons, Arden of Minneapolis, Minn., Wayne of Sioux City, and Leo "Mike" of Charleston S.C.; three sisters, Marce Determann of Sheldon, Frances Pick of Le Mars, and Lilly Mulder of Woodbine, Iowa; two brothers, Albert of South Sioux City, Nebr. and James of Harlan, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Clara, Josie and Liz, two brothers, John and William, and two grandchildren, Helen Louise Kroll and Corey Michael Blake.
