Joseph M. Appley

Joseph M. Appley, 92, of Akron, died Friday (Dec. 16, 1977) in an Akron hospital of brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Immanuel Lutheran church. Rev. David Roy will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. A prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Schroeder funeral home.

Mr. Appley was born Nov. 19,1885 in a log cabin in Union county, S.D. He farmed until 1946 in Union county, when he moved into Akron. He resided here 28 years. He made his home with a daughter in rural Akron for about a year, then moved to a nursing home at Alcester, S.D., two years ago. He married Martha Jane Telford of Emmetsburg Jan. 22, 1913. She died in 1963.

Survivors are a son, James of Akron; and three daughters, Mrs. Venita Utesh of Whitesboro, N.Y., Mrs. Elmer (Velma) Heeren of Elk Point, S.D., and Mrs. Russell (Martha Mae) Anderson of Akron; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mollie Oake of Akron.
