Larry Swift

Larry C. Swift, 42, Sioux City, a former Le Mars businessman, died Thursday, (Dec. 29, 1988) at his home. His death was attributed to suicide.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran church in Sioux City. The Rev. Steven Dornbusch officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery at Akron, under direction of Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Pallbearers were Marv DeVos, Roland Detloff, Orville Kenowith, Lanny Harms, Gary Berkenpas and Bruce Vermeer.

Honorary pallbearers were Glen Talsma, Doug Bottorff, Dwight Gjesdal, Jack Lambert, Denis Gorde and Jim Nelson.

Mr. Swift was born April 1, 1945, at Sioux City to Charles and Evelyn (Kailsen) Swift. He was raised in Plymouth county and attended Akron and Le Mars schools. He graduated in 1963 from Le Mars Community high school. He married Madonna Plendl in 1964. She died May 11, 1977. He married Debra Schroeder Feb. 17, 1978, in Le Mars.

He was employed with Bomgaars Supply for 23 years, managing stores at Ida Grove and Le Mars, prior to moving to Sioux City where he managed the Bomgaars store the last five years. He was a member of the Sioux City Downtown Merchandising Council and Morningside Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife, Debra; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryon C. and Sue Swift of Port Orange, Fla.; sons, Brad E., with the U.S. navy at Westwego, La., and Brent W. and Brandon A., both at home; a daughter, Beth A. at home; and his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Boetger of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his father, his first wife, Madonna and an infant daughter.
