Donald E. Hombs
Donald Edward Hombs, 55, of Westfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1989, at his home after a long illness.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Westfield Congregational church. Rev. Norman McCallum officiated. "Thy Secret Place" and "In A Little While", was sung by Allison Siebens and David Olson. Pianist was Renee Banks. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron with military graveside rites conducted by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion, Akron. Funeral arrangements were under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron.
Casket bearers were Chris Dyhrkopp, Dave Stewart, Michael Burke, Joe Norton, Larry Nielsen, and Jerry Bagley.
Mr. Hombs was born Jan. 26, 1934 in Clark, Mo,, son of Oscar and Ethel (Porter) Hombs. He married Patricia L. Yates, June 22, 1957, in Westfield. He served for eight years in the U.S. air force during the Korean War and was stationed some of that time in Sioux City. He was employed as an electrician for Nystrom Electric of Sioux City for several years and had lived in the Westfield area for many years.
Mr. Hombs received a 25-year service award from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers. He served for three years as chairman for the pastor parish committee of the United Methodist church in Sergeant Bluff.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Westfield, three sons, Kevin of Westfield; Kyle of South Sioux City; and Kerry of Sioux City; a daughter, Danna, a student at the University of South Dakota, living at home; three brothers, Homer of Westfield, Wis., George of Carterville, Mo., and Marvin of Centralia, Mo.; two sisters, Elva Smith of Chicago, and Agnes Hulen of Centralia, Mo., and two grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
