Onno Croon of Craig Died Saturday

Onno Croon, 76, who for years was engaged in farming and stock raising in Plymouth county, passed away at his home in Craig Saturday afternoon, following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran church in Craig Tuesday afternoon.

Onno Croon was born in Hanover, Germany, Feb. 12, 1859, and came to America with his parents when eight years old. They settled near Nokomis, Illinois, where he grew to young manhood. He came to LeMars in 1882 and bought a farm in Grant township and was a successful farmer for many years until he retired and moved to Craig. Mr. Croon was active in community life. He served as president of the Savings Bank of Craig and at times served as trustee and assessor. He helped organize the Lutheran church at Craig. He is survived by his wife and three children, Nels Croon and Mrs. August Ladwig of Craig and Mrs, Howard Grubb of Buffalo Gap, S. D. A brother, Henry Croon, also in Craig.

By the death of Mr. Croon, another old settler is gone who was well and favorably known by old time residents here. Before Craig was thought of and when this territory was considered as part of Ireton’s trade territory, he was a familiar person here. Since the building of Craig, he has been prominent there.
