Asmus Steffen died at the home of his son-in-law north of Remsen on Friday evening. Death was due to old age. The deceased was 85 years old, and is survived by four sons and four daughters. The funeral was held on Tuesday from Christ Lutheran church in Remsen. Rev. Noack officiating. – Le Mars Globe Post, Jan 6, 1927, page 7.

Hans Asmus Steffen, one of Remsen’s oldest citizens and a pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at Remsen last week of old age. He is survived by three daughters and five sons. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Steffen was born at Kiel, Germany, March 28, 1841. At the age of 23 he came to the United States and having been married to Miss Lena Rowether, settled on a farm near Traer, Ia. They also lived at Reinbeck and then moved to Remsen in 1886. They lived on a farm until 1914, then retired and moved to Remsen. Mrs. Steffen died in 1920. He has recently been living with his daughter on a farm near Remsen.
The surviving children are: Berward, Linn Grove; Albert, Paullina; John, Cherokee; Henry, Linn Grove; Emil, Kingsboro, Cal.; Mrs. Laura Struve, Linn Grove; Mrs. Amanda Evans, Remsen, and Mrs. Emily Lewis, Milwaukee. There are also 31 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The deceased was a member of Remsen Christ Lutheran church. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Jan. 10, 1927, page 1.
