Rites Are Held Last Friday For Mrs. G. Hummel

Had Resided In Westfield For Many Years

Funeral services were held Friday morning of last week for Mrs. George (Hansena) Hummel, 81, at Westfield Congregational Church, who passed away at the Akron Hospital on Tuesday of last week following a long illness.

Hansena Christensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on July 4, 1880. She came to the United States at the age of five years and settled at Salix, Iowa. On December 17, 1903, she married George Hummel at Sioux City and they moved to Westfield in 1920. Mr. Hummel passed away in 1963. Westfield remained her home until about two years ago when she entered the Akron Nursing Home.

Mrs. Hummel was a highly esteemed citizen of the Westfield Community. She was a member of the Congregational Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Vesper Chapter, No. 61, and Vesper Club. In 1963 she was named Plymouth County "Mother of the Year."

Survivors include six daughters: Mrs. Henning Hansen, of Hendricks, Minn., Mrs. Theodore Carlson, of Sioux City, Mrs. Don Secor, of Chico, Calif., Mrs. Charles Holzworth, of Camp Hill, Pa., Mrs. George
Schultz, of Kalispell, Mont, and Mrs. Chester Eisele, of Juniata, Nebr.; four sons: Clarence, of Akron, Lyle, of Kalispell, Mont., George, of Salix, la., and William, of Sergeant Bluff, la.; forty-one grandchildren; sixty- four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edward Maus. Vocalist was Richard Smith, who sang the selections "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," accompanied by Mrs. Keith Knapp. Casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased, Harlan Hummel, Donny Hummel, Hilly Hummel, Dale Hansen, Henning Hansen, Jr. and Roger Eisele. Internment was in Riverside Cemetery at Akron.
