RITES ARE HELD LAST SUNDAY FOR KAREN K. HUMMEL

Former Westfield Girl Victim Of Hit And Run Driver In Texas

Karen Kristine Hummel departed this life on Tuesday, September 13, 1956, in New Braunfels, Texas, as the result of having been struck by a hit and run driver of a gravel truck, at the age of 6 years, 3 months, and 11 days.

Karen Kristine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hummel, was born in Akron, Iowa, on May 29, 1949. She was baptized at Westfield, Iowa, at the age of 11 months by the Rev. J. Steele. With her parents she lived in Westfield until two years ago, when the family moved to New Braunfels, Texas.

Karen had been enrolled in her first year of school just one week and was on her way to school at the time of the fatal accident. Karen was a child of loving nature and will be greatly missed among her Sunday school und school friends and relatives.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Billy; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Ballard, of Sioux City, and Mr. und Mrs. Geo. Hummel, of Westfield; the maternal great-grandparents, Mr. und Mrs. Wm. Tiernan, of Torrance, Calif.; several aunts and uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 18. at 2:00 p m. at the Westfield Congregational church, the Rev. J. Steele officiating. Mrs. R. McLain sang two solos, "When He Cometh" and Jesus Loves Me." Mrs. Keith Knapp was accompanist. Pallbearers were E. M. Ballard, Kenneth Hummel, Harlan and Clarence Hummel. Interment, was in Riverside Cemetery, Akron.
