RESIDES HERE SINCE YOUTH. Mrs. J.P. Grage, of Henry Township, Dies Monday Night. LEAVES LARGE FAMILY. Services Are Held Thursday at Remsen Lutheran Church.
Mrs. J.P. Grage, wife of a prominent Henry township farmer, passed away at her home Monday evening at 9 o’clock, following a four months illness. She was 60 [50?] years old and a native of Germany.
Mrs. Grage was taken ill suddenly last September with tumor of the brain. In November she was taken to the Rochester, Minn., clinic, where an operation was performed. This failed to improve her condition and she was returned to her home three weeks later with all hopes of recovery abandoned.
She was born in the village of Boel Westerfeld, Schleswig, Germany, on November 27, 1879, and with her parents came to this country at the age of four years. They settled in Keystone, Iowa, living there ten years. Then they came to Remsen, locating on a farm south of town. The mother died in Keystone, and the father moved to Wadena, Minn., a few years after coming here. Mr. and Mrs. Grage were married in Grangeville, Idaho, in 1808 [1908?], and after living there for one year they returned to Remsen and have been farming south of town ever since.
Leaves Many Relatives. Besides her sorrowing husband she is survived by her father, Henry Christopherson, of Wadena Minn., and the following children: Mrs. Elmer Steffen, Mrs. Fred Steffen, Mrs. Wm. Gottsch, and Lillian, Henry, Irma, Elmer, Marie, Walter, Raymond and Arley Grage, all living at home and in this vicinity. The brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Wm. Matthiesen and Mrs. Charles Chrisine, Wadena, Minn.; Mrs. Alvin Carlson, Grand Rapids, Minn.; Alvin Christophersen, Remsen, and Will Christophersen, Wadena.
Funeral services were held at the family home at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, and in Christ Lutheran church, Remsen. Services were conducted by the Rev. A. Noack. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Dec. 27, 1929, page 1.
