YOUNG REMSEN GIRL PASSES AWAY MONDAY. Miss Cleone Galles Dies After Brief Illness at Age of 23 Years. Funeral Held Wednesday Afternoon.
Death ente4red the home of Mrs. Catherine Galles Monday morning and took away an only child, who had been a sufferer with ill health all her life, Miss Cleone Galles, the 23 year old daughter of Mrs. Galles who passed away shortly before noon after a brief siege of intense suffering.
Although the young lady had been in poor health since early childhood, a sufferer with epilepsy, and her condition was severe only at intervals, she was nearly always able to be about, to assist her mother around the home and to b a loving and loved companion. Three weeks ago she was taken more seriously ill, suffering many seizures which grew in frequency and violence until at 11:15 o’clock Monday forenoon, in spite of good medical and mother care, she suddenly passed away.
Cleone Marguerite Galles was born on a farm seven miles south of Remsen on June 1, 1902, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter E. Galles, who were prominent in this community for many years. Her father preceded the young lady in death, and since his departure, mother and only child have been keeping house in Remsen. Her dearly death is a severe shock to the mother and immediate relatives, and their many friends extend their profoundest sympathy.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, with services in St. Paul’s Evangelical church, of which the deceased was a member since early childhood. Services were conducted by Rev. Thomas, pastor of St. John’s church, Le Mars, and were largely attended. Many friends called at the home prior to the funeral, and the casket was heaped with natural flowers in great profusion, many of which were carried to the grave. The pall bearers were six uncles of the deceased, a touching fact in this connection being that they were the same hands that bore the body of the young lady’s father to the grave a number of years ago. They were: Charles, John and Fred Earnest, Theo. Treinen, V.C. Mechnig, and Geo. W. Kramer. Those who carried flowers were: Mrs. S. E. Meyer, Mrs. E. J. Schumacher, Mrs. Charles Schumacher, Mrs. Edw. J. Lang, Mrs. F. A. Sievers, and Mrs. G. A. Null. The large attendance at the funeral services, as well as the unusually large number of floral tributes were testimonial of the esteem held for the deceased and the sympathy for the relatives in the hearts of their many friends. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, August 20, 1925, page 1, column 4.
