Jeri Ann Grant, 80, of Le Mars and formerly of Remsen, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Jeri Ann Grant was born Dec. 17, 1926, at Des Moines, the daughter of Verl “Barney” and Daisy (Woolwine) Bryant. Jeri Ann was raised in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1944. She then attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, for 1 ˝ years. On Feb. 24, 1946, she married Duane E. “Dewey” Grant in Jefferson, where they made their home.
In 1947 they moved to Remsen where they operated Dewey’s Variety Store from the mid-1950s until 1965. In 1963 they moved to Spencer and returned to Remsen in 1973. Jeri Ann was the librarian at the Remsen Public Library from March 1973 until Sept. 11, 1996, and was also the librarian at Remsen-Union Public School for nine years.
Dewey died July 1, 1978. Jeri Ann moved to Le Mars in 1999. She had been a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars since April 2006.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen.
Jeri Ann was an avid reader.
Survivors include a daughter, Teri Ann and her husband Dr. Craig Mason of Kailua, Hawaii; a son William J. “Bill” and his wife Diane of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Renee Grant Mulvey and her husband Kevin of Altoona; five grandchildren, Aaron Grant of Des Moines, Laura Grant and her husband Zachary Turner of Santa Barbara, Calf., Mary Grant of Boise, Idaho, Emily (Mason) Daley and her husband Jay of Minneapolis, Minn., Matthew Mason and his wife Nashira of Aiea, Hawaii; six great-grandchildren, Avery Grant, Damon Grant-Wargo, Annika and Christopher Daley, Baylee and Nathan Mason, one sister-in-law, Judy Grant of Houston, Texas; and one brother-in-law, Robert Grant of Hot Springs, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Michael; and a brother, Donald Verl Bryant at birth.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Remsen with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery.
Visitation was after 3 p.m. Monday with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. Visitation resumed Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Casketbearers were Bill Grant, Aaron Grant, Kevin Mulvey, Rochelle Tentinger, James George, Karla Prichard. Honorary bearers were Emily Daley, Matthew Mason, Laura Grant, Mary Grant, Craig Mason, Jay Daley.
