Gordon Kilstrom departed this life last Monday morning, August 28, 1972, along Interstate Highway 80, near Menlo, Iowa, as the result of an auto accident. He was 54 years of age.

Gordon Carl Kilstrom was born in Chicago, Illinois, October 16,1917. When but a little over a year of age he came with his parents, Axel and Karen Kilstrom to Akron, Iowa. He had lived here in Akron ever since. He was baptized in the Methodist Church during childhood. On Friday, July 18,1947, he was united in marriage to Miss Marian McDougall. The wedding took place in the St. John Lutheran Church of Le Mars. A silver wedding anniversary was celebrated last July. During World War II, he served overseas in the Philippines, particularly in Mindinao, for a period of many months. He was a member of the American Legion and was Finance Officer for many years, past Commander and Post Adjutant in the local organization.

For over 30 years he was employed by the Gassman Motor Company and more recently was Career Underwriter for Farm Bureau Insurance Company. He served his community in many ways, and in particular can we mention his work in the Akron Commercial Club and in the Town Council over several years. He had been a faithful member of Immanuel Church for many years and served wherever he could. This included his terms on the Immanuel Church Council.

Gordon was a man of excellent character. His faith in Christ shown brightly in his daily life, both in his home and in his contacts with the public. His quiet, genuine neighborliness won for him a host of friends. Among those who survive his untimely departure are: his Wife, Marian; his three children, Marsha, Kent and Steven, all at home; his brother, Clifford of Sioux City, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning, August 31, at the Akron Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Roy officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery with the Schroeder Funeral Home in charge. Active Pall Bearers were: Herb Woudenberg, Fred Claesson, Jr., Allen VanderHelm, Floyd Davis, R. D. Gustafson and Daryl Port Honorary Bearers were E. 0. Johnson, Richard Dirks, Clifford Miller, Glen Milbrodt, Ron Kelly, Mario Fodness, Grant Gassman, Verle Barwick, Russell Anderson and Richard Bean. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion.
