Mrs. Karl Klaschen died at her home on the farm a few miles south of Remsen on Wednesday afternoon, death being caused from a case of flu and leakingage of the heart. The deceased was 29 years old and is survived by her husband and four small children, also sisters and brothers. The funeral was held Saturday from St. Paul’s church at Remsen, Rev. Hy. Mrs. Karl Klaschen, wife of a prominent young farmer southeast of Remsen, passed away last Wednesday evening after a very brief illness. The deceased was born on a farm south of Remsen on August 6, 1899, and was a daughter of the last Mr. and Mrs. Chris Matthiesen. Her maiden name was Miss Margaret Matthiesen. She lived at home with her parents until her marriage to Karl Klaschen, February 27, 1919. Their marriage took place in the St. Paul parsonage in Remsen. Immediately after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Klaschen went to farming for themselves south of town. Mrs. Klaschen was a devoted wife and mother, and a young woman of many admirable traits of character. Her early death is a great shock to the sorrowing husband and little children whom she leaves, and her many friends extend their sincerest sympathy to the surviving relatives. Surviving are, besides her husband, the following children: Wilma Helen, 2. Lavana Anna Margaret, 4. Earl William Earnest, 6; and Marvin Xian John, 9 years old. The funeral took place Saturday afternoon with services at the home at 12 o’clock, followed by services in St. Paul’s Evangelical church, the services being in charge of the Rev. Hy. Mrs. Karl Klaschen, wife of a prominent young farmer southeast of Remsen, passed away last Wednesday evening after a very brief sickness, her rather sudden passing coming as a stunning blow to the sorrowing husband, children and their many friends. Mrs. Klaschen died with a complication of diseases, the direct cause of her death being influenza, coupled with heart weakness. Mrs. Klaschen was but 29 years old.
Mrs. Klaschen had been ailing for about a year with heart trouble, but was apparently on the road to recovery when about two weeks ago she was taken sick with a bad cold which developed into influenza. Again she was apparently on the way to recovery but suffered a relapse and was sick in bed for a week when the end came suddenly.
The deceased was born Margaret Matthiesen on a farm south of Remsen August 6, 1899 and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Matthiesen. Her maiden name was Miss Margaret Matthiesen. She lived at home with her parents until the date of her marriage to Karl Klaschen, February 27, 1919. Their marriage took place in the St. Paul parsonage in Remsen. ---------------------TRANSCRIBER NOTE: The gravestone in the Remsen Cemetery records the death year as 1928. No death date is given in the obituaries. The best guess, especially from the first news article, is that the funeral was on Saturday, December 29 and Mary died on Wednesday, December 26, the day after Christmas.
