Stryzewski, Henry A. 1897 - 1970

Henry A. Stryzewski, son of Emil Stryzewski and his wife, the former Hudla Meske, was born July 31, 1897, at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Oshkosh. He came to Akron in 1918. On February 8, 1922 he married Miss Emma Gillman at Peace Lutheran Church at Sioux Center, Iowa.

During the past fifty-two years he has owned and operated the Akron Variety Store. As a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church he was active in the Brotherhood (now the. A.L.C.M.) and attended many Brotherhood conventions and A.L.C. conventions. He was an Iowa delegate to the recent national convention of the A.L.C. held at Columbus, Ohio. He served on the Trinity Congregation Church Council for a number of years. Active in community affairs Mr. Stryzewski served for many years as a member of the Akron Board of Education and was active in committee work with the new Akron Hospital. He was a member of the Akron Commercial Club, served as its president and on the board of directors and took an,active part in,many of its activities." He served on the Plymouth County Draft Board for twenty-one years.

Mr. Stryzewski passed away at the Akron Hospital on Sunday morning, January 25, after an extended illness.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, two daughters, Mrs. W. L. Chambers (Esther) of Carroll, Iowa, Mrs. Glenn Kask (Phyllis) of Minneapolis, Minn.; one son, Ralph Stryzewski, of Sioux Falls, S.D., two brothers, Harold Stryzewski and Herman Stryzewski, of Oshkosh, Wise., eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday afternoon of last week with Rev. Harris Hostager officiating. Musical selections were two numbers, a duet "0 Take My Hand, Dear Father" sung by Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jurgensen and the congregation hymn, "The Lord My Shepherd Is" with Mrs. Glen Gabel serving as organist.

Honorary casket bearers were L. D. Ross, Henry Steinert, Fred Marienau, Albert Witt and Andrew Bredall. Active casket bearers were MacDonald Thorson, Elmo Fletcher, Gerald Smith, Ed Dirks, Kenneth Peters and Daryl Port. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
