Funeral Saturday for Hans Sonnichsen. Hans D. Sonnichsen, 96, of Remsen died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 1985 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Christ Lutheran Church here. Rev. Lee R. Mentink officiated. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery under direction of the Moeller Funeral Home.
Mr. Sonnichsen was born Nov. 5, 1889 on a farm west of Denison in Crawford County, the son of Hans S. and Katrina (Nicholsen) Sonnichsen. In the early 1900’s he moved with his family to a farm near Bridgewater, So. Dak. He farmed there and was a musician with several bands. He was studying to be an architect when he joined the Infantry in World War I. After being wounded in France, he returned to Bridgewater and joined with brother as a carpenter.
His marriage to Anna Kroeger of Remsen took place Sept. 18, 1924, at the home of his parents north of Remsen. His wife died on Dec. 10, 1979.
He was a carpenter and contractor here for many years and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Remsen band and Le Mars municipal band.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Herman (Della) Kluver of Remsen; a son, Leonard of Remsen; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister. – family news clipping
