Edgar “Ed” Kendall, 87, of Remsen, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen after a lengthy illness.
Edgar Kendall was born April 18, 1919, at rural Coshocton, Ohio, the son of Charles and Sarah (Clark) Kendall. He was raised and educated in the Coshocton, Ohio area. He was a pitcher on a farm team for a professional baseball team until being drafted into the military service. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, being stationed in California and Alaska and was honorably discharged Feb. 24, 1946. On Oct. 7, 1944, he married Roma Koch, formerly of Remsen in Santa Monica, Calif. After his discharge from the military service they remained in southern California where he worked most of his working life as machinist in the aerospace industry. They moved to Remsen in April 1994. He and Roma enterd the Happy Siesta in October 2006.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church LCMS, in Remsen, American Legion Post 220 of Remsen and was a past member of the Elks when he lived in California.
He enjoyed bowling and watching baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Roma of Remsen; one daughter, Donna Kendall of Remsen; two sisters-in-law, Esther Schlerf of Baltimore, Md., and Arlene (Letsche) Wolf and her husband James of Remsen; eight nieces and nephews; and one cousin, Ila Knott of Montgomery, Ill.
He was preceded by his parents; a daughter in infancy; a sister-in-law Lois Beelner and her husband Marcel; two brothers-in-law, John Schlerf and Harold Letsche, and a nephew in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen, with the Rev. Duane Miesner officiating. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery, with graveside military rites will be conducted by Post 220 American Legion and Post 3328 V.F.W. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday at 9 a.m. until service time at the church. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen is charge of arrangements.
Casketbearers will be Marvin Brandt, Dennis Kroeger, Terry Maass, Dennis Vaske, Dennis Wolf and Eugene Wolf.
