Wayne E. Weber, 79, of Le Mars, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at The Abbey of Le Mars following a brief illness.

Wayne Ernest Weber was born Jan. 9, 1932, on the family farm south of Le Mars, the son of Ernest Arthur and Lila Winifred (Darville) Weber. He attended country school and later graduated from Le Mars High School in 1950.

Wayne assisted his parents on the farm following high school.

On March 4, 1952 Wayne was inducted into the United States Navy. He proudly served during the Korean War aboard the Destroyer USS S.N. Moore. Wayne earned his honorable discharge on Feb. 28, 1956, and returned to the family farm.

Wayne and Beverly Bainbridge were united in marriage Feb. 10, 1958, in Kingsley. They made their home on the same farm where Wayne was born. Along with farming, Wayne worked at Mc Donald's in Le Mars.

He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Wayne was also a 42-year member of Wasmer American Legion Post 241 and the Eagles Club in Le Mars since 1974.

He was an avid sports fan and followed the St. Louis Cardinals.

His greatest joy was watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

His family remembers annual vacations, boating, bowling, polka dancing, his fondness of chocolate shakes, a good game of pool, batting practice with crab apples and the many family cruises they took in later years.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Beverly of Le Mars; a son, Jeff Weber of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Desiree Jacob of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Kyra and Taj Jacob of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick on Aug. 29, 2009; a sister and her husband, Lavonne and Harold Buss; and brothers-in-law Beryl and Donald Bainbridge and Robert Coughenour.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. John Battern of the Le Mars United Methodist Church will officiate. A family interment service will take place at a later date at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home with the family present at 5 p.m.
