Remsen Pioneer Claimed By Death.
Last rites were held in St. Paul’s church at Remsen Tuesday afternoon for Carl Schumacher, well known resident there for many years. Mr. Schumacher died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. August Hansen, after a long illness of dropsy, March 17
He was born in Rheinsburg, Germany, August 8, 1853 and located in Remsen in 1886 where he engaged in the carpenter trade.
Two children, a son, four years old, and a daughter, Mrs. Albert Heinis, 33, preceded him in death. The surviving children are: Ernest J. Schumacher and Mrs. Hansen, Remsen; William Schumacher, Eldora; Charles E. Schumacher, Remsen; Mrs. Emma Sanny, Le Mars, and Mrs. Esther Engelbrecht, Remsen. One brother, Michael, resides at Marengo, Iowa. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, March 27, 1934, page 3.
