REMSEN BANK OFFICIAL DIES. FRANK SPIECKER, RESIDENT OF COUNTY SINCE BOYHOOD, WAS WIDELY KNOWN.
Frank Spiecker, for the past 35 years connected with the First Trust and Savings bank, of Remsen, and for the last 25 years its cashier, died of pneumonia Friday at the home of his son in Long Beach, California, according to word received here.
Mr. Spiecker, accompanied by his wife and daughter, Thelma, went to visit at the home of his son, Carl, in Long Beach, about a month ago, upon the suggestion of physicians, who recommended the California climate for his health. Emory Spiecker, son of the deceased, who is employed in a Sioux City bank, was summoned to Long beach a few days ago by the illness of his father, arriving at the bedside a few minutes before he died.
Mr. Spiecker graduated from the Remsen school in 1889, and obtained employment as clerk in the First Trust and Savings bank which position he held for ten years. He was then placed in control of the bank’s affairs, and for the past 25 years had been cashier of the institution. When commenting on the death of Mr. Spiecker, James F. Toy, Sioux City banker, said: “Mr. Spiecker was man of sterling worth to his community and a credit to the banking profession. His death grieves me deeply and the Remsen community will feel his loss keenly.”
Mr. Spiecker is survived by his wife, two sons, Emory, of Sioux City, and Carl, of Long Beach, and one daughter, Thelma, who lives with her parents.
Frank Spiecker was born in Benton county, September 11, 1872, and came to Plymouth county with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Spiecker, in 1883. He received his education in Remsen and the Le Mars normal school. He was united in marriage with Miss Magdalena Scheel, of Plymouth county, June 19, 1895.
He was one of the prominent men of the community and held many positions of trust and was honored and trusted by all who knew him. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Aug 19, 1924, page 1.
