Johann Raveling, nee Reenken, wife of our esteemed friend Tjebbe Raveling, of Meadow township, died at her home at an early hour on Saturday, March 12. Mrs. Raveling was born January 1, 1858 in Rorichum East Friesland, Europe, and there she became the wife of Mr. Tjebbe Raveling in the year 1881, and in 1882 they both came to this country and located near Remsen. Their union was blessed with ten children, of whom eight live with their father to mourn the severe loss. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and over 100 buggies and carriages loaded with people formed the cortege. Rev. Albert Dettmann spoke feelingly of the departed good woman at the blessing of the body in St. Paul’s church, before the march to the final resting place. – Le Mars Sentinel, March 22, 1904, page 1
