Heinrich Raveling, father of the Raveling brothers and Mrs. Peter Tjaden died after a long illness at his home in Meadow township on Friday, May 19, 1905. Heinrich Raveling was born in Bedecastel, Ostfriesland, Germany, on the 17th day of August, 1820. On the 29th day of July 1845, he took as his wife at the little church in his native home, Miss Sieve Henrichs who survives him with eight children of the twelve with which their union was blessed. Deceased and wife came to the United States in 1882 and located in the neighborhood of Remsen. Their surviving children are Trientje, now widow of Henry Zachte; John of Wabasso, Minnesota; Hilke, now Mrs. John Tjaden; Jacob of Peterson, Iowa; Peter, George and Tjebbe of Meadow township, and William of Lamberton, Minnesota. The remains of Heinrich Raveling were laid to rest in the Remsen cemetery Sunday afternoon. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, May 30, 1905, page 3.
