Carl Miller Dead After Brief Illness
Young Meadow Township Farmer Passes Away in Sioux City Hospital Funeral Friday

Carl Miller, a young farmer of Meadow township, passed away in a Sioux City hospital early Wednesday morning, March 11. His death was the result of meningitis due to influenza. He was 31 years old, and is survived by his wife, three small children, one sister and several brothers. The funeral is to take place Friday afternoon, with burial in the Remsen cemetery.

Mr. Miller, although in poor health for several years, was in apparently good health up to a week before his death. On the previous Tuesday he took a bad cold, and confined himself to the house under special care, and last Sunday morning he became seriously ill. On advice of his physician, he was taken to a Sioux City hospital Sunday evening, and soon after his arrival there lapsed in unconsciousness, from which he never recovered, death calling him away at 2 o’clock yesterday morning. The body was immediately taken to Remsen and prepared for burial.

Carl Miller was a native of Denmark, where he was born on October 3, 1893. In 1910, in company with his parents, he came to the United States, settling near Marcus and Remsen ever since. He was united in marriage in 1919 to Tina, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kloster of Fredonia township, and the couple went to farming on the Kloster farm three miles northwest of Remsen where they remained for five years. Last year they moved to the Anna Treinen farm seven miles northeast of Remsen, in Meadow township.

The deceased was a very likable young man, kind and considerate and obliging to his neighbors and devoted to his wife and children. He was a good citizen and was held in high esteem by all who came in contact with him.

Surviving are, besides the wife, the following children: Vernon,4; Floyd,3; and Doris, a year and 10 month old. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Jens Miller, living near Marcus, and the following sister and brothers: Hans, living near Oyens; Peter, near Storm Lake; Mrs. Jim Juhl, Remsen, and Martin, Louis, John, Chris and Aage, living with their mother near Marcus.

The funeral will be held Friday, with the services at the home of the deceased’s father-in-law, Chris Kloster, in Fredonia township, at 1 o’clock, followed by services in the Danish Lutheran church also in Fredonia, and burial in the Remsen cemetery.
