Edmond Junck Victim of Drowning

Edmond Junck, 53, a life-long resident of this community, drowned Friday afternoon while swimming in a farm pond near his home. The farm is located about six miles southeast of Hinton.
Mr. Junck lived on the farm since boyhood.

The body was found in the pond on Saturday morning. A search Friday evening disclosed Mr.
Junck's clothing on the bank, but the body could not be found at that time. It is said that while working in the field, Mr. Junck suggested to the hired man that they go for a swim to cool off.
The later said he was too hot but might go swimming later. When Junck did not show up for supper a search was made and the clothes were found. Saturday county officials were called in and Sheriff Frank Scholer, with Deputy Jim Mertes, found the body after about 20 minutes. The search began about 5 a.m. as soon as there was light. The pond is 14 feet deep in some places.

An autopsy was performed and disclosed clear evidence that he had drowned.

Mr. Junck was born May 19, 1901, on this same farm where he spent his life.

Survivors include his widow; two sons, Clair
of Bronson, Iowa; and Roger, with the armed forces in Korea; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Patterson,
of Whiting, Iowa; four brothers, Henry, Herman,
Raymond, and Clause, all of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Orville McCuddin, of Sioux City, and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Luke's Evangelical Church at Sioux City, with Rev. Raymond Tiemeyer, officiating.
