Rites Set.Joe Luken, 92, lifetime Plymouth county resident, died Tuesday (April 6, 1976) at the Abbey in LeMars after a 6-week illness.
The nonagenarian was born May 13, 1883, in Plymouth county to Barney and Elizabeth Kuhlman Luken. He farmed in the area until 1943 when he retired and moved to LeMars.
Mrs. Luken preceded him in death, as did his parents, a son Merlin and a daughter, Mrs. Henry Rogge, and several brothers and sisters.
He was married to Stella Muth in 1909 at Elk Point. He was a member of St. James Catholic church.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James with Rev. George McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Luken-Johnson funeral home.
Parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by a brother, Nick Luken, of Phoenix, Ariz., and a sister, Clara Luken, Marcus; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
