Jerry Sullivan Widely Known Horseman Dies

Popular Resident Had Lived In Plymouth County Since Early Youth

"Jerry" Sullivan, 79, widely known resident of Plymouth county for fifty-seven years, died Saturday at the home of his sister, Mrs. B. M. Guillaume, in Sioux City following an attack of cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Sullivan had been in failing health for about a year.

Coming to LeMars in 1880 he made hig home in this county ever since with the exception of a few years spent in Vermillion, S. D.

Jeremiah Sullivan was born in Dubuque, seventy-nine years ago and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Sullivan, pioneer farmers in Stanton township.

He was a farmer, teamster and horseman and in earlier days worked in livery stables. His kindness for animals and their care gained him a merited reputation. Mr. Sullivan was genial, kindly and friendly and a favorite of children who like himself loved horses, dogs and domestic animals. Mr. Sullivan had a fund of stories of bygone times and possessed a saving sense of humor.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. B. M. Guillaume of Sioux City and his brothers, John Sullivan and Michael Sullivan of this city, and a large number of nephews and nieces by whom he was greatly loved.

Funeral Held Yesterday

The remains were brought to Le Mars from Sioux City to the Wiltgen funeral home where many frlends gathered to pay a tribute to his memory. The last rites were held Monday morning at St. James chuch, Rev. Father L. J. Cooper officiating at the mass. Interment was made in St. James cemetery. The pallbearer's Jos. Britt, Michael F. Connor, Charles W. Lite, Jos. McDermott, Earl O'Brien and Lawrence Vondra.
